Horace_DalleyDisease of the kidney is a serious debilitating illness that is often caused by complications, such as hypertension, cardiovascular and nervous condition. Dialysis Centres, therefore, play a critical role in health….

Dialysis centres play a critical role in health through the provision of haemodialysis treatment for persons suffering from kidney disease, or end stage renal disease (ESRD). Over 400 person require haemodialysis treatent annually. The Ministry of Health’s hospital database recorded a total of 1,581 persons over the last three years with 463 in 2003, 615 in 2004 and 503 in 2005. This points to an increase in the demand for renal dialysis.

With only two Dialysis Units available in the public health system at the Kingston Public and Cornwall regional hospitals, Private entities such as the Sunshine Dialysis Centre are playing a crucial role in filling the existing void. A greater public private cooperation must, however, be fostered to facillitate the treatment of more public patients at the private facilities.

The Sunshine Dialysis Centre can help to establish this partnership, and its 15th anniversary celebration, under the theme ‘Sunshine Dialysis Centre Saving Lives, Making a Difference for 15 Years’, provides a perfect opportunity.

On behalf of the Ministry of health, I salute the Sunshine Dialysis Cntre on 15 years of invaluable service to Jamica, and wish the organisation every success as it continues to play an essential role in health care. – Horace W Dalley M.P., Minister of Health
